Cloud Vertical Structure of Stratiform Clouds with Embedded Convections Occurring in the Mei-Yu Front

Cloud Vertical Structure (CVS) plays a crucial role in determining atmospheric circulation and the hydrological cycle. We analyzed CVS Stratiform Clouds with Embedded Convection (SCEC) occurring mei-yu front over central-eastern China based on conjunction of S-band Doppler weather radar, C-band Frequency Modulation Continuous Wave (C-FMCW) rad ar, Microrain Radar (MRR). Our results showed that both melting layers rain rate were unevenly distributed three SCEC cases, there was thicker layer larger embedded convection. In stratiform regions, vertical velocity particles upper region generally range 0–4 m·s−1, increased rapidly to 4–12 m·s−1 near bottom layer. case June 28, due vigorous development convection, cloud upward movement, growth this faster than surrounding regions. The distributions Drop Spectrum Distributions (DSDs) average concentration drops 3 mm as they fell from km 1 km, collision–coalescence process convection stronger.
